Two of the most important aspects of Italian culture are the wine and the women - both are highly appreciated and celebrated for the value that they bring to the country’s culture. From region to region, North to South, the wine and the overall culture will differentiate – however, the universal love for it will remain constant, and this is no different down in the beautiful southern region of Puglia!

Puglia is one of the most untouched regions of Italy; some of even the most experienced travelers still have yet to visit or even hear about this region. Puglia is located in Southern Italy, and is the area known as “the heel of the boot.” It’s attractive to travelers for many alluring reasons – the stunning “white city” of Ostuni, the unique trullo houses in Alberbello, the famous restaurant in a seaside cave, and not to mention the beautiful beaches.

The wine harvest takes place each fall in September, when the Mediterranean climate is warm and luxurious, and after the summer beach crowds have retreated back home.

One of the most unique aspects of the Puglian culture is the wine harvest season, which is also one of the best times to visit the region. The wine harvest takes place each fall in September, when the Mediterranean climate is warm and luxurious, and after the summer beach crowds have retreated back home. An interesting part of this wine harvest season is the important role that the women hold. Women are the center of this Puglian wine culture, with responsibility for much of the vineyard work. Historically, the women who were responsible for collecting the grapes spent their days dancing and singing, turning the wine harvest season into a traditional Italian celebration!
