How Solo Travel Can Make You Stronger

Travel Italian Style is a big supporter of solo travel. That's why we have created trips such as our Women's Tuscany Tour this Fall  that will prepare and inspire you to get out there in the world!

We now will be sharing posts about why we as women (and members of TIS) love to travel and other's who inspire us! Today we introduce you one of our team members, Francesca!

I have always been a strong believer in doing things on your own once in awhile. Whether it’s catching a movie or grabbing a bite to eat, sometimes your own company is simply enough. From personal experience, I know what it’s like to have different interests than your friends and having to put those interests on the back burner for the good of the group. That’s why the idea of traveling solo seems so appealing to me. It’s a chance to be unrestrained from compromise, an opportunity to see the world the way I want to see it.

In a couple months, I am embarking on my own solo travel adventure. I’ve been waiting for my chance to study in London for the majority of my life. Notebooks filled with lists of place I want to visit are placed upon dog-eared travel books on my nightstand in preparation.

I have long decided this is going to be MY trip and I am not willing to settle on anything less than what I’ve dreamed about for years.

If I want to go to the small town where Jane Austen wrote or see some obscure British band none of my friends like, you better believe I’m not going to let anyone get in my way.

I am not going to lie - I am also terrified. The idea of being in a big, unfamiliar city like London on my own is daunting. It’s also a new beginning, a new place where you can recreate yourself.

In this day and age, especially for woman, it’s difficult to escape others expectations. Traveling is an opportunity to create your own expectations.

When traveling I am no longer willing to settle and neither should you. Whether it’s England, Italy, or anywhere else, you should be able to see the world as you want to see it. Traveling should be a time to learn to be independent and how to become in charge of your own life, a skill that can be used long after your return.

Francesca will be starting her very own blog to document this very experience! Check back for more info soon!
